Program Blog Feb 26

  • February is always a busy month at Cloudbridge Nature Reserve, what with the Chirripó Race and the end of school vacations in Costa Rica.  We are grateful for the visitors who have come to hike our trails, stay in our casitas or take a guided tour, we trust you had a great experience at Cloudbridge, and would love to hear any feedback you may have for us!  Among the various educational and volunteer groups that have visited in the past month, I would like to highlight the nature-appreciating organization Wilderness Inquiry, which has not only been bringing groups to the reserve for many years, but also shares our goals of allowing more people access to the natural world.

This past weekend was the Chirripó race, and we would like to say congratulations to all of the athletes who participated in this great adventure, as well as the excellent organization team of San Gerardo de Rivas.  For some time now, Cloudbridge has been sponsoring the participation of local athlete José Rojas in these types of events.  The image above shows how his son was able to accompany him across the finish line, what an inspiration.  Congratulations José, on winning second place in your category!

Though at a much slower pace, Cloudbridge staff member Casey McConnell also participated in the race, and throughly enjoyed her trip up the mountain.

As always, this was a community event, with locals preparing food in the community kitchen in the days leading up to the race, and many other activities taking place.  Each year it is an honor for Cloudbridge volunteers and researchers to be able to support these efforts, and this year was no exception!
