Program blog January 26

As is customary, the year started out with a busy month, receiving two student groups from the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science for a full week of exploring the cloud forest and learning what conducting science in the field is like.  Working in small teams and guided by Cloudbridge staff, these bright students designed research questions, collected data and presented their findings to their peers with excellent slideshows.  They also found some time to enjoy some cultural experiences such as a visit to the farmers market in San Isidro, and an evening meal with San Gerardo local and dear friend to Cloudbridge doña Leila Fonseca : )

Visitors to San Gerardo have probably noticed doña Leila´s lovely home, located directly behind the church.  She has seen many change come to this small village during the many years she has lived here, and is always an extremely gracious hostess, preparing a wide assortment of tropical fruits for the students to try, in addition to a delicious typical meal.

Though our focus was on this visiting group for part of the month, we are also thankful for the researchers and volunteers that we currently have on-site, who have made some excellent animal sightings over the past month.  Especially exciting is the two-toed sloth that Jana Leona Fischer was able to see on one of our private trails, thank you for allowing us to share these excellent images!
